Teslim Olawale Balogun ''Thunder'' (1927—1972) at Loftus Road stadium as a player for Queen Park Rangers, 1957. Balogun made only 13 appearances and scored 3 goals for QPR. He was also a member of the Nigerian national team for 12 years (1948-1960), making just 6 appearances. He was the first African to qualify as a professional coach and was a coach for Nigeria at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Survived by eight children, Balogun died in his sleep on July 30, 1972. He was 45. Around 8:00 am in 1821 in Osogun village, present-day Oyo State, there was an alarm; “The Fulani slave raiders are here. They are invading the town walls”. It was at first mistaken for the Fulani slave raiders who usually passed by Osogun. However, within a short time, the village was surrounded by the Foulahs, the “Yoruba Muslims”. They numbered about 2,000 on strong swift horses. The enemies came at a time when most of the able men and women of the town had left at home for work. Houses were ruthlessly set on fire and the inhabitants fled for their lives. The whole town was in flames. Ajayi, his mother, and two sisters ran into the hands of two of the raiders, who put nooses around their necks. King Ibrahim Mbouombouo Njoya (1867-1933) of Bamum, Western Cameroon, had 600 wives and 177 children. Out of fear that important historical facts of the Bamum could be erased or corrupted, he developed the Bamum alphabet of 70 symbols and a writing system to preserve his kingdom's oral history which the French later destroyed. Njoya, as part of ways to ensure the written language was widely adopted, established schools and directed that the Bamum language is used as a form of instruction along with the German language. Njoya was a very brilliant king who also invented a hand-powered corn grinder. After World War I, France took over German territories and subsequently took control of Cameroon. The French who felt threatened by the achievements of King Njoya banned the use of his writing system and destroyed his printing press, libraries and several books he had written. Breaking: Court Rules for Arraignment of Sowore & Mandate As both Plead Not Guilty to All Counts including (1) Treason (2) Cyberstalking (3) Money Laundering Sowore laughed when the count of Money laundering was read. He said he doesn’t have a UBA account and that he doesn’t understand what the prosecutor is up to. The Federal Government will on Monday, September 30th arraign Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore, before the Federal High Court in Abuja. According to a report by Punch, he is to be arraigned on seven counts of treasonable felony, money laundering and cybercrimes which was instituted against him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. The Department of State Service, which has been detaining the former presidential candidate since August 3, continues to hold him in custody in violation of the court order granting him bail six days ago. Justice Taiwo Taiwo, who earlier on August 8, granted the DSS permission to hold the activist for 45, had on September 24, granted him bail. Despite meeting the bail condition on September 25, Sowore has not been released by the DSS. Sources also confirm that the criminal case instituted against Sowore was not assigned to Justice Taiwo Taiwo, but to Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who has subsequently fixed Monday for arraignmen

Lawmakers Urge Justice Ojukwu To Recuse Self From Sowore’s Case The Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association has called on Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to recuse herself from presiding over the case brought against pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, by the Nigerian Government. The lawmakers stated that Justice Ojukwu should not preside over the case as the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the Department of State Services had refused to abide by the order of Justice Taiwo Taiwo of coordinate jurisdiction, asking Sowore to be released on bail. Justice Taiwo had last Tuesday asked the DSS to release Sowore on bail after the expiration of the 45 days detention order given to the security agency.
