Home     Politics Politics What I’ll Do To Ajimobi’s Last-Minute Contracts – Makinde Newly Elected Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde The Oyo State Governor-elect, Mr Seyi Makinde, has promised to review all contracts awarded by the state government after the March 9 governorship election. Makinde made the promise in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday by his spokesman, Mr Dotun Oyelade. He said, “Events of the past two weeks have shown characteristics of targeted contract awards that were compiled in a haste and randomly awarded to empty government purse before the May 29 swearing-in date. “While the government remains in place till May 28, awarding a N30bn new set of contracts in one day as was the case during last Wednesday’s executive meeting was curious and an aberration, especially when debts, as old as 2011 are left unpaid.” The governor-elect pointed out that information from civil servants who have the

9TH ASEMBLY: BOROFFICE TAKES A SHOT AT DEPUTY SENATE PRESIDENT Now that the National Assembly seats have been won and lost, there is frantic politicking across the geo-political zones, as Senator-elects scramble for principal offices in the 9th Assembly. The permutations put the South West at a vantage point, should the Deputy Senate be zoned to the region, with three major contending states— Ondo, Oyo and Lagos. As a rule, the offices of the Senate President and Deputy Senate President are exclusively for ranking senators, which have the likes of Prof. Ajayi Boroffice (Ondo North), Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central) and Teslim Folarin (Oyo Central) as qualified candidates. The three are ranking senators re-elected to the Senate for the third time on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sad News.  Comfort Dooshima is Dead! The local government collation officer for Gboko Local Government Area, Comfort Dooshima, who was shot by unknown gunmen yesterday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital is dead. Mrs Doshima was a professor and lecturer at the University of Agriculture was shot on her way to the INEC headquarters, Makurdi, to present results from the local government. BREAKING: Tambuwal survives, narrowly defeats APC in Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scored the highest votes the Sokoto State governorship election after polling a total of 512,002 from both the March 9 first ballot and yesterday’s supplementary election. Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came close behind with 511,661, losing to his erstwhile principal with just 341votes. Mr Aliyu was Mr Tambuwal’s deputy governor. Both men were of the APC until Mr Tambuwal defected to the PDP. The results of all the local governments where supplementary elections were held in Sokoto have now been announced at the state collation centre. A final declaration by INEC that Mr Tambuwal has won the election is expected any minute from now. See details of the results here. More details to come.
