WORLD NEWS BREAKING: Army Demands Immediate Removal Of President.  March 26, 2019 Algeria News Alert. Ahmed Salah, Algeria’s chief of army staff, has demanded that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika be declared unfit to rule after weeks of protests against him. The army chief urged an immediate adoption of the country’s Article 102, which allows for a president to vacate office if declared unfit. “We must find a way out of this crisis immediately, within the constitutional framework,” he said in a speech on television “This solution achieves consensus and must be accepted by all.” The development comes days after the 82-year-old leader who got to power in 1999 said he would not stand for reelection for another term, following a wave of protest about six weeks ago. The protests stemmed from Mr Bouteflika’s extended medical vacation in Switzerland, which citizens said was costing the country too much in terms of state business. No Birth Certificate, No Primary School Enrollment,Akeredolu Tells Parents.     Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Tuesday said that the National Population Commission birth certificate has become a yardstick for the enrollment of any child into primary schools across the state. The Governor stated this in Akure, the Ondo state capital at a stakeholders meeting on birth registration. The event was organized by Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation (BAAF) in collaboration with National Population Commission and Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Board. Akeredolu added that parents would be compiled to register their child between age zero and five at any point of treatment in health centres in the state. He noted  that any child without a National Population Commission birth certificate would no longer be admitted into primary school in the state. Breaking: INEC withholds Certificates of Return of Zamfara Gov, Lawmakers-Elect ABUJA: The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has placed on hold, its earlier decision to present Certificates of Return to Muktar Idris, Governor-elect in Zamfara state as well as State Assembly members-elect. The exercise which would have taken place Wednesday was suspended following a judgment of the appellate court regarding the sponsoring of candidates by the All Progressives Congress APC in the state. According to the commission, it has now been served with a copy of the court judgment. “INEC has been served with the judgment of the Court of Appeal Sokoto concerning the sponsoring of candidates by the APC in Zamfara and is studying same. Consequently, the presentation of Certificates of Return for the Zamfara Governorship and State House of Assembly scheduled for Wednesday 27th March 2019 has been suspended”, the Commission said in a statement on its Facebook page, Tuesday.
Breaking: Ajimobi Makes New Appointments In Oyo Outgoing Governor of Oyo State Abiola Ajimobi has approved the appointment of Prof Kazeem Adebiyi, as Rector of the Polytechnic, Ibadan. This is contained in a statement signed by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday evening. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adebiyi is to take over from the Acting Rector, Femi Ipadeola in a substantive capacity. Arulogun said that the governor also approved the appointments of other principals of the institution. “Other appointments approved are Mrs Modupe Fawole, as the Registrar, Mr Olawale Ojesola, as Bursar, Dr Samuel Ajala, as Chief Librarian and Mr Stephen Ipadeola, as Director of Works and Services.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another step against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Naija News understands that the step against the presidential candidate of the opposition party is not unconnected to the recent legal actions by Atiku, questioning the outcome of the Presidential election that saw President Buhari as the winner while Atiku believes that the results must be subjected to critical scrutiny. Justice Abdulaaziz Waziri of Yola State High court on Tuesday lifted the interlocutory injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from conducting supplementary governorship elections in Adamawa State. The INEC had fixed March 23, 2019 as the date of the rerun after declaring the earlier election inconclusive but the court stopped the conduct of the election in the state pending the determination of a suit before it. Falana vows to sue Buhari over allocation of oil blocks A senior Nigerian lawyer, Femi Falana, has threatened to go to court if the Muhammadu Buhari administration goes ahead to allocate oil blocks to private individuals and corporate bodies. Mr Falana said such allocations are a gross violation of the fundamental rights of the Nigerian masses to freedom from discrimination and equal right of access to public property. His threat was contained in a letter to the president, dated March 20, with a copy made available to PREMIUM TIMES. In the letter titled, “Request to Stop Allocating Oil Blocks to Private Individuals and Corporate Bodies”, the lawyer also warned the president to restrict the allocation of oil blocks including marginal fields to the Federal Government and the governments of the 36 states of the Federation. Barely one week to the April 2 collation of results of the March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State, the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara is complaining that his life is in danger. His running mate, Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh, resigned yesterday morning and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Yeeh, 67, an Ogoni, was yesterday afternoon received in the Government House, Port Harcourt, by Governor Nyesom Wike and other PDP leaders. Man strangulates Girlfriend To Death In Ondo. An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure on Monday sentenced a man, Chukwudi Onweniwe, to death by hanging for killing his undergraduate girlfriend two years ago. Onweniwe, a boyfriend had strangulated his girlfriend, Nifemi Adeyeoye, an HND student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic to death in Owo, in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. After reviewing the case, the presiding judge, Justice Ademola Samuel Bola, found Onweniwe guilty of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging. The convict was charged on four-count charge bordering on endangering life, abduction, rape and murder. The prosecutor, Jumoke Ogunjebi, who filed the information on February 20, 2017, called five witnesses, including the mother of the deceased, to testify against the convict. The convict abducted Nifemi and took her to a farm near Alayere, Ogbese, raped her and then snuffed life out of her by choking and strangulating her to death. Nifemi’s mother,
