Dogara Blasts Buhari over Nigeria’s Budget The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari over the 2019 and previous budget estimates and procedure. Mr Dogara in his opening remarks at a public hearing on the 2019 budget said the budgets over the years have only reflected the selfish wish of its drafters. He said the budgets have repeatedly excluded national values and interests. He also criticised the late submission of budgets to the National Assembly by the Executive. “Over the years, the main problem with our budget as submitted by the Executive is that it does not reflect national values and priorities. Ekiti Government approves Palace Court. The Ekiti State Government on Wednesday approved the operation of traditional palace courts in the bid to tackle crime in the state. The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda, made this known at an interactive session with traditional rulers at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti. Mr Fapohunda urged the traditional rulers to forward judgments emanating from the palace courts to the state government for compilation into a compendium. He posited that traditional rulers play a very important role in the administration of justice, adding that palace courts were recognised by the government to dispense justice to the people in their communities. The commissioner stressed that the compendium would serve as law reports to be known as Ekiti Palace Law Reports. Okorocha On his Own on Non-issuance of Certificate Of Return – APC March 27, 2019 APC, INEC, Rochas Okorocha The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday reacted for the first time to the decision of the independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) not to issue certificate of return to Imo state Governor Rochas okorocha. It said the party has no official position on the issue since the governor is still under suspension. National publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa- Onilu, said at an interactive session with reporters that the governor has also not informed the party of the problem with the electoral management body probably because he is aware of his suspension. A release today in Abuja by the corporation’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, said the Second Phase of the exercise involving shortlisting of qualified candidates had started, explaining that the qualified ones among them would be invited to participate in a computer-based aptitude tests. ‘Envious’ 22- Year-old Man Beheads Elder Brother In Jigawa March 27, 2019 The police in Jigawa on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly beheading his elder half-brother. Police spokesperson in Jigawa, Audu Jinjiri, said the incident happened on Tuesday at about 2:45 p.m in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state. “The police in Gwaram Local Government Area received a report that one Mr Gambo Sa’idu, 22-years-old of Badakoshi community, used a cutlass to cut off the head of his elder brother identified as Haladu Sa’idu, a 40-year-old. The Police said officers arrested the suspect at the scene of the crime and is in police custody. The brothers had the same father but different mothers. The deceased was said to have more cows than other members of the family, including their father. An Ondo state High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced Seidu Adeyemi to death by hanging for killing Miss Khadijat Oluboyo, first daughter of a former deputy governor of Ondo State. Adeyemi was charged for killing his girlfriend, Khadijat Oluboyo, on July 2, 2018 and burying her inside his room at Aratusi, Oke-Aro area of Akure. Khadijat was a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko (AAUA) until her death.
