Children Rejoice as Irele LG Celebrates 2023 Children's Day in Grand Style.
Children were thrilled yesterday as Irele Local Government Council Celebrated Primary and Secondary school students as part of the activities earmarked for the 2023 International Children's Day.
The Program which drew people from walks of life was a fiesta of celebration for the children in attendance.
The program started with an opening prayer that dissected the theme of the 2023 International Children's Day "The State of Nigeria Today; Proper Parenting for Value Re-orientation and National Consciousness".
The Lead Discussant in the program, Chief Femi Moyegun in his discourse emphasised the importance of the theme and called on stakeholders to uphold it for the betterment of the younger generation.
The seasoned administrator lamented poor parenting which he described as the reason for immoral behaviour in the society today.
Chief Moyegun who represented the community leader charged parents and stakeholders to take the theme seriously to enhance the moral conduct and national consciousness of the Children.
He urged the government to make education more accessible to significantly reduced the number of out-of-school children in Irele Local Government and Nigeria at large.
Also, Mrs Kemisola Abegbe Abiodun, a retired Principal in her lecture described children as the greatest asset to humanity adding that a home without children is empty regardless of the amount of wealth.
She decried the high rate of immorality among children nowadays and attributed her claim to poor parenting noting that parents should redouble their efforts in ensuring the proper upbringing of their wards.
Mrs Abiodun who represented Women lauded the theme of 2023 International Women's Day and enjoined stakeholders to work towards achieving what the theme stands for reasonably before the 2024 edition of International Children's Day.
In the same vein, the Vice Chairman of ANCOPPS in Irele Local Government who doubles as the Principal of Atoranse Community Grammar School, Mr Orilogbon and his Arerin Counterpart, Mrs Omogunloye called on the government, parents and stakeholders in ensuring value re-orientation and genuine parenting to ensure that the children's future is guaranteed.
Espousing the theme of the 2023 International Children's Day, the Executive Chairman of Irele Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Ajimotokin felicitated with the children describing them as the hope for a brighter future.
The Council Boss affirmed that if the theme of the 2023 International Children's Day is achieved reasonably the country would be better and the chances for a better tomorrow would be more promising.
Hon. Ajimotokin urged the government to provide wider access to quality education that would further reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country.
He equally charged parents to live up to their responsibilities by providing genuine parenting for their wards adding that the conduct of the parents is a point of reference to these young budding minds and the precedence set or leave behind is what they would imbibe calling on parents and guardians to invest in the education of their children and wards, giving them moral training, as well as exposing them to the practice of their respective cultures and traditions.
Hon. Ajimotokin engaged the students while delivering his speech and craved the opportunity to ask the students questions and rewarded those students that got his answers correctly with cash gifts.
Reacting, Miss Ebisanmi Oluwagbotemi from Comprehensive High School and Master Akinsade Precious from Beulah Eric Secondary School thanked the Chairman for organizing the great event for the children stressing that the program has added significant value to their lives.
The duo while condemning some parents that give birth to many children without catering for them urged parents to give birth to children they can nurture to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the local government and the country at large.
Another activity that took place in the program was Dancing Competition and Cultural display by the students.
Mega School Pupils came first in the female Dancing Competition, Christ College second and Oyenusi Memorial Grammar School third.
C and S Primary School equally presented Biripo cultural songs excellently among other presentations and all the schools and students in attendance went home with cash prizes and gifts.
Other dignitaries in the program were: The Secretary to Irele Local Government, Mr Oladipupo Temenu, Head of Local Government and Administration in Irele Local Government, Mr Okorobo Rotimi William, Director of Community Development, Pastor JB Orukotan, Mrs Omogunloye M. O, Principal Arerin Grammar School, DCO of Irele Divisional Police Station, DSP Joseph Musa, NAILGOS National President, Comrade Kehinde Adeyeye, Members of Staff, Students among others.
