ONDO SOUTH 2023: In Dr Jimoh Ibrahim OFR CFR, We Will Realise the Unlimited Power of a Senator to Transform His District```.

The power of a legislator who is up to the task can never be overemphasized in modern legislation and democracy.

Unfortunately, the majority of the leaders we have produced from the South, over the years, left us with a myopic view of what a senator can do, as we have already within our minds, set a limit to their performances.

Meanwhile, a senator, besides his statutory powers to initiate bills that will create wealth, comfort and an enabling environment for his people to thrive and succeed, has unrestricted access to all Federal ministries and agencies (to which Power is one) which is crucial to Ondo South today; as the legislature is replete with committees, monitoring their activities, performing an oversight function, statutorily and lobby taking a reasonable percentage of all their employments, empowerments and recruitments (most of which the state Governors are not even aware of), to the benefits of their districts or constituents.

There is no amount of debt Ondo South owes today, that a Senator's constituency allowance cannot offset, after which he (the senator) will invoke his legislative powers to move motions for its restoration. But it is not yet time to ask questions, just like we are not going to dwell on the blame game, but proffering solutions.

According to Engr. Ade Adetimehin (the Ondo State APC party Chairman), in one of the ward-to-ward tours with Araba to Ajagba ''....Araba is not the type his mates can send on an errand and decide critical issues behind him....''

Let me add to it in this way, as Araba is not the type others can send an errand; also, in his presence at the Red Chamber, no cabal dare raise the ugly head to corner and manoeuvrer dividends to their state or districts without recourse to Federal Character's principles.

What else does a legislator or senator need to be effective than a wide range of influence and connection, mental ability, political sagacity and financial capacity to lobby and agitate for his people? All these, even the worst critics of Dr JIMOH Ibrahim agree he possesses to a fault.

Thus, the bitter pill we Ondo Southerners must swallow is that, as we have barely two months to another election, the moment we settle for less, either due to unnecessary hatred or emotions, we have agreed not even to maintain the status quo, but retrogress as a district, for the next four years.

The legislative office demands a bold, vibrant and outspoken personality.

Ondo South - go for Araba, vote for the best!
