Alice Augusta Ball was an African-American chemist who developed the first successful treatment for leprosy which saved thousands of lives for many years after her death.
Ball was the first woman and first African-American to receive an M.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Hawaii. She was also the university's first female chemistry professor.
Tragically, Ball died on the last day of 1916. She was only 24. #HistorywithBob.
