Indian Hemps Smokers Sack School Teachers In Delta Heavy Smokers of marijuana otherwise known as Indian hemps in warri, Delta State, have allegedly Sacked teachers at Alieru Primary School in the area and have littered the classrooms with ungodly materials. While the activities of these Suspected hoodlums are currently causing fear of the unknown in the area, the school head Mrs Patience Omene who confirmed the unwholesome act to Journalists on Friday, disclosed that the school had been the seige of the hoodlums who frequently litter the classrooms with Condoms, tissue papers, and openly smoke to the faces of the teachers during school hours. Rasing the alarm further, Mrs Omene said she and her teachers Carry out their duties in fear of the unknown and panic following the open threat poses by the hoodlums who allegedly had demanded for N200,000 for them to stop. According to her, ”I have started working in this school since In the 90s as a teacher before I was promoted the head of school, for fear of the unknown, parents have withdrawn their children, a school that used to bubble before the invasion of the hoodlums, the school facilities have come effectively under the control of the hoodlums, they have taken over the classrooms, especially during night fall, and even during working hours,they smoke in the open” disclosing that the incident had been reported to the police. But Acting Police Public Relations Officer in the State, ASP Chucks Orisewezie who confirmed the incident to Journalists in the area, said the Police were working hard to arrest the hoodlums, adding that plain clothes police men were drafted to the school for 24 hours surveillance. Speaking further, the school head said most of the class rooms, especially those in use have allegedly been vandalized by the hoodlums, adding that many of the ceiling boards were also stolen as virtually all the classes are now shadow of itselves, and noted that the pupils in their innocence, sometimes copy some of the habits they see with the hoodlums, Such as smoking with their note books. She said: we are not safe at all in the school, when we come in the morning, we see the hoodlums around smoking Indian hemps, it’s not good for the children, even when classes are going on, the pupils inmitate how the hoodlums smoke, and we try to stop them, we have no gate, nothing, and the school is not fenced, there is no sign board, we need Security agents to really help us as we can’t do it alone, our lives and that of the children are in dangers” In a swift reaction, the state commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Barr Chiedu Ebie said the state government was looking into the problems of the school, adding that for the safety of the pupils, the security agents have been mandated to arrest the hoodlums while the vandalized facilities will be replaced soon.
